In recent years, the Alchemist Skincare line has been further refined in Paris by specialists with deep roots in the field of French luxury skincare, but its origin goes back in time to the days of my grandparents. Years ago, the family owned a successful textile business, and my grandparents not only paid their employees well, but they ensured their wellbeing by supplying Ayurvedic remedies to combat common ailments and minor injuries. Over time, these remedies continued to evolve, taking on greater utility with the inclusion of medicinal plants found in the forests of India. Before long, word spread of how effective the remedies were, and the family was able to transition from creating beautiful fabrics in the textile mill to mending the ill in a family style apothecary. That apothecary still exists today.
The present-day application of Ayurvedic principles to luxury French skincare comes from two things my grandparents instilled in me. The first is a strong desire to help people. The second is a great appreciation of beauty…and by “beauty,” I don’t mean perfection. One person’s flaw can be another person’s beauty mark. Though beauty can be subjective, healthy skin is universal. And, while on the subject of beauty, here’s a little-known fact about my grandfather. He crafted stunning fabrics in the textile mill, but, in his spare time, he was something of an artist. He would create these intricate sketches that I marveled at as a boy. Seeing the subjects of his sketches, I couldn’t help but notice that there was often a subtle difference between the real and the re-creation. I wondered at first if he drew the people as he perceived them, but I later learned that he drew them as they perceived themselves, taking their requests into consideration. I wanted to do that too, to accentuate one’s natural beauty, and, with the newly updated Alchemist Skincare line, I believe I’ve accomplished just that…but I’ll let you be the judge.
